There is no doubt that Alexander Wang is the center of attention as a young upcoming designer. Born and raised in San Francisco, he launched his first women’s collection in 2007 after studying Parsons Design School and taking various internships. His creation is always sleek and urban with tasteful rock grunge feeling. In 2008 he won the CFDA/VOGUE fashion fund. Vogue Hommes Japan were so lucky to interview him at his exclusive party at select boutique Adelaide.
How many times have you been to Tokyo?
This is my forth time.
How do you like Tokyo so far?
I love it! I think there is such a good energy about the city that you can’t find anywhere else but there is also this big split I like about it. You come to Tokyo and you feel like you are in this completely urban city bright lights, noise etc.. but then there is also certain part you feel like home.. At least for me, clean, very quite, tree lines little boutiques and cafes.
What are you wearing today?
Vintage t-shirt, Number (N)ine jeans and Vans sneakers. T-shirt, jeans and sneakers is my everyday style.
What is your morning music?
Haha you know, the funny thing is I don’t really listen to music in the morning I’m always in a rush cause I wake up, had 19hour trying to running around my house looking for people who run out of the house.
Where is your favorite spot in Tokyo? Do you have any store you always go to?
I don’t know yet and I feel am still discovering that I’ve been to a couple of different neighborhoods but I feel like it’s going to take a while for me to get deep into Tokyo and find the best spot.
What do you think of Tokyo fashion, especially menswear?
The great thing about Tokyo is that Men’s fashion is almost bigger than Women’s. You really find great selection here that you can’t find it anywhere else.
Do you have any Japanese brand you are interested in?
Number (N)ine.
What do you think of VOGUE HOMMES JAPAN?
I got the latest issue. I like it. I especially love the fashion story with Nicola and Hedi.

4回目です。
東京の印象は？
僕は、東京が大好き。東京ってすごい良いエネルギーが溢れている都市だと思う。でも東京って二つの顔があるよね。ある場所は、ヴィヴィッドな照明やざわめきに包まれているけど、違うエリアに行けば、静かで、並木道や小さなカフェやブティックがあって、ホームタウンに戻った気持ちになったり。そんな二面性が魅力てきだと思う。
今日のコーディネートは？
ヴィンテージのTシャツ、Number (N)ineのジーンズとVANSのスニーカー。Tシャツ、ジーンズ、スニーカーが僕のメインスタイルだよ。
朝聞く音楽を教えてください。
ははは。正直、朝は音楽を聞かないよ。朝はいつもバタバタしてるからね。１９時間の仕事の後に起きて、僕の家から急に出ちゃった人たちがどこに行ったかさがしたりね。
東京でお気に入りのショップはありますか？
うーーん。今まだ開拓中だよ。もう少し時間をかけて、東京を散策して見つけたいなって思ってるよ。
東京のメンズファッションについてどう思いますか？
とても興味深いことは、東京では、メンズファッションがウィメンズより大きいって感じること。他のどこでも見つけることができない、小さくて、でも洗練された日本のメンズコレクションがあると思うな。
興味のある日本ブランドはありますか？
Number (N)ine は大好きだよ。
最後にVHJ vol.2 は見たことがありますか？もしあれば、お気に入りのファッションストーリーを教えてください。
買ったよ。僕は、やっぱりNICOLAとHEDIのやったアメリカを舞台にしたファッションストーリーが気に入ったよ。
